Dancing and Fruit Salad

When I was a little girl, I loved to put music on and dance around.  I just love to dance, it’s so much fun!  I can’t believe how amazing it feels.  I still do this sometimes like when I’m cooking or just want to move around.  I was even in a talent show at my middle school.  A friend and I created a dance and gymnastic routine to Whitney Houston’s “I’m Every Woman.”

As I got older, I started to have a lot of pain in my hip and neck.  It didn’t really get me down except for when I started to worry and even then I was still pretty active.  I took up sewing, crocheting, and knitting at that time and it made the pain in my body worse.  I still love to make things  like that but I can only work on stuff for so long and then need a break.  Yet I can go on hikes, exercise and feel great.  It doesn’t seem to make sense but I guess it’s just my body.  I don’t like to sit still lol.

I didn’t let pain stop me, but I did go have x-rays and eventually physical therapy then a chiropractor.  I was so relieved that it wasn’t serious, especially the pain in my hip.  It all worked out well for me and now I just see the chiropractor as needed.  I still feel pain in my neck sometimes and I might look into it further at some point.  Over the years I tried yoga just for fun.  I bought this Gaiam Beginner’s Yoga Starter Kit and I just do the AM yoga portion of the disc now and then.  I love following along to the recording and I feel good afterwards.  Then a few years later I found out about Leslie Sansone.  She makes exercise videos and she calls it “walking.”  I love to follow along with her videos just like the yoga.

I have always thought of taking a dance class like tap.  I still might try that and see if I enjoy it.  But I’ll always have my videos to follow and dancing around my house.  When I was feeling better physically I followed this video in the picture above everyday and tried the Vegan diet way of eating.   After a few months, I was doing so well physically that I was even doing cartwheels again like when I was a kid.  It felt amazing!  Right now, I’m no longer eating a Vegan diet and I just eat what I want.  I learned a ton about nutrition and I’m grateful for that because diabetes runs in my family.  I lost my mother and grandmother way too soon.  You can check out my recipes on the blog and keep checking back to see what I eat.  I definitely feel like staying active has benefited me a lot and I’m just sharing about this because all of this made a significant difference in my quality of life.  It really feels good to write  it down and share.  I don’t have any relatives or friends around to share it with so I love having this blog!!!!

I also wanted to share this awesome fruit salad recipe I found years ago and have been enjoying since.  I love to put basil in mine and it would be good with some kind of sweetener as well.

Here’s the recipe- Antioxidant Fruit Salad.  It’s so refreshing and pomegranates are in season right now.  I made this salad today for hubby and I , along with some sandwiches, to take on our walk later.
