Garden 2019

I enjoyed picking up some plants for my garden and wanted to share what I’m growing this year.

The veggie plants I picked out are cherry & roma tomatoes, zucchini, green bell peppers, and cucumbers.  I have string bean and lettuce seeds to plant.  I like contender string beans. And I usually plant salad bowl lettuce because the cabbage white butterflies don’t lay eggs on it.  I like to have an organic & easy to grow garden.

The herbs I’m planting are sage, thyme, rosemary, basil, oregano, lavender, lemon balm, and cilantro.  I already have chives, cat mint, and ginger mint.

I know a lot of my herbs are perennials but most didn’t grow back this year.  I had a sage plant for over 5 years.

Anyway, most of my herbs are going in pots on the deck.  I planted the basil and cilantro with the veggies because the basil seems to do better in the ground.  I want to have a lot of basil this year and will plant some seeds too.  I haven’t had any luck growing cilantro yet so I’m going to see if it does better in the ground instead of a pot.  I also have parsley seeds to plant and I love to share it with the swallowtail butterfly caterpillars.

Every year I pick out different flowers for fun.  I also have other flower seeds to plant like nasturtium and zinnias.

My columbine and clematis flowers are starting to bloom.

I’m hoping to pick up some more native plants too soon.  Hawk mountain has a native plant sale coming up this weekend.

I feel really blessed to have a garden and to choose what I want to plant.  I like to keep it simple and I’m so happy with it!
