Cape May Zoo & Nature Walks

Sunday was our first beach day of this year!  Hubby spotted this gorgeous moth in our garden before we left in the morning:

This is the Commodore John Barry Bridge that crosses the Delaware rive between PA and NJ.  I always enjoy the wonderful view from this bridge.

We decided to stop in to see the animals at the Cape May Zoo.  My favorite part was watching the male & female lion pair. One of the zookeepers walked up to their enclosure and the female lion walked up to him.  She behaved just like a house cat.  She yawned a few times and rubbed against the cage while the zookeeper scratched her.  I don’t know why I didn’t take pictures because we were standing close enough.  I think I was just enjoying watching them so much that I didn’t want to fuss with my phone.  When the zookeeper left, the lioness watched him for a bit then walked over to where the male lion was sitting pretty.  His mane was so beautiful!  They gave each other kisses and snuggles.  That was all so wonderful to watch.  We had a lot of fun on our visits to this zoo and I definitely recommend stopping by if you have the chance.

Next we went to Cape May Point State park to eat our pasta I made for us the night before.  I made the roasted tomato and asparagus orzo I shared in a few posts back.  After lunch, we walked along the nature trail that we have enjoyed so many times before.  We saw low, fast moving clouds which was really neat because we never saw that before.  And by the time we were finished with our walk, a dense fog had moved in from the ocean.  We could barely see the lighthouse, so we decided not to sit on the beach to read on this trip.

We picked up coffees & treats before heading to the Wildlife Refuge.  This cinnamon roll was the best I ever had,  I am not kidding lol.

Hubby took a nap while I battled the elements lol and walked out to the beach myself at the wildlife refuge.  I had so much fun by myself.  I found these big wild roses that smelled incredible!   You can see the fog in the photos and when I got out to the beach it was really windy and cold.  I couldn’t see the ocean at all but really enjoyed listening to it my entire walk.

On the way home, we saw so much lightening.  I don’t think I ever saw that much before.  I ended up taking some pictures of it.  We drove through one storm with hail and stopped under a bridge for about 15 minutes until the storm eased up a bit.  Then when we got home there were two more big storms after that.
